The drink habit had a hold on him that it seemed he could not shake<\/p>\n<p>off.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>L C <strong>McDonald<\/strong>, better known as \u201c<strong>Calvin<\/strong>\u201d <strong>McDonald<\/strong>, died at Argyle, Fl Sunday night (May 5, 1918).<\/p>\n<p>Burial took place Tuesday at the Valley cemetery.\u00a0 He was 70 yrs of age having lived<\/p>\n<p>here nearly all his life.\u00a0 He leaves a wife and 4 girls and 1 boy to grieve, Miss <strong>Annie<\/strong>,<\/p>\n<p>a teacher at Panama City; Miss <strong>Christian<\/strong> member of board of State Examination in<\/p>\n<p>Tallahassee; Miss <strong>Helen<\/strong>, who is postmistress, and railroad agent at Argyle, and Miss<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lillian<\/strong> and brother <strong>John<\/strong>.\u00a0 Also leave 2 sisters, Mrs W D <strong>McLean<\/strong> &amp; Mrs J C <strong>Douglass<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>1918 May 16&#8211; <strong>Ralph<\/strong> R <strong>Jenkins<\/strong>, died in Philadelphia Pa about the 14<sup>th<\/sup> of last month. News did not reach relatives of the family until\u00a0 last week, a letter telling of his death written by his sister failing to arrive.\u00a0 It was only when <strong>Bert<\/strong> <strong>Murray<\/strong> mailed him a picture of their baby child that his relatives discovered that they knew nothing of his death.\u00a0\u00a0 Ralph went to Louisiana where he worked with Uncle Bob Adams several years ago then to Philadelphia where he was employed in a munition factory. He was abt 28 yrs and died suddenly from pneumonia.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Willie<\/strong> <strong>Miller<\/strong> (see Mar 7).&#8211; A letter from Adjutant general of army says he died in Navy<\/p>\n<p>Base hospital on March 2<sup>nd<\/sup> and was buried with religious cermonies and military<\/p>\n<p>honors in Kerfautras cemetery at Brest, France.\u00a0 He was in stevedore regiment,<\/p>\n<p>Co M 303<sup>rd<\/sup> to say whether he was white or colored, but in this war the govern-<\/p>\n<p>ment gives same recognition to all.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>1918 May 23&#8211; <strong>John<\/strong> <strong>Dadason<\/strong>, a Negro, was found dead Sunday near 8 mile trestle on the<\/p>\n<p>Brittan logging road, his head being crushed and his throat cut.\u00a0 Later develop-<\/p>\n<p>ments indicated that <strong>Ed<\/strong> <strong>Murphy<\/strong>, Negro was the guilty one and Deputy Sheriff<\/p>\n<p>Doll Pryor caught him and lodged him in jail, the motive evidently robbery.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>1918 May 30&#8212; Ex-Congressman <strong>Emmett<\/strong> <strong>Wilson<\/strong> died in Pensacola Hospital Wednesday. He<\/p>\n<p>was 36 yrs and was elected to 63<sup>rd<\/sup> Congress from this district. He has relatives in<\/p>\n<p>Chipley and Marianna.\u00a0 Arrangements had not been made at this time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Calhoun<\/strong> <strong>Skipper<\/strong> who was operated on Sunday for appendicitis at the Morris Sanitarium;<\/p>\n<p>died Tuesday (May 28, 1918) and was buried on Wednesday in the city cemetery. Information we have is<\/p>\n<p>the family is destitute and should be given aid.
