1919 Aug 21– Last Saturday night, Sunday and Sunday night, 5 members of the Lundy family,<\/p>\n
W A, the father; Pete, Thomas, Joe and Charley, sons were arrested by county officers<\/p>\n
charged with the murder of John Mitchell, 32 yrs of age.\u00a0 It is reported that the dead<\/p>\n
man married a daughter and sister of the Lundys and there has been considerable ill<\/p>\n
feeling. The body of Mitchell was found about 4 miles from town, last Saturday and<\/p>\n
as he was last seen in the company of one of the accused they were placed under arrest.<\/p>\n
A Preliminary trial was held on Tuesday before Judge Mathews and the case was con-<\/p>\n
tinued until Thursday, Aug 21st<\/sup>, the 5 men charged with the crime being removed to<\/p>\n the county jail at Andalusia.\u00a0\u00a0 This Mitchell is said to be a brother of the man of the<\/p>\n same name who was killed at Charlie Carter\u2019s last Christmas.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n *Word has been received by J M Reid of the sudden death of his old friend, Mr George<\/p>\n Nunn at Hamilton, Canada on Sunday morning the 10th<\/sup> inst.\u00a0 Mr Nunn suddenly expired<\/p>\n in church at the close of the communion service while talking to some of his brethren.<\/p>\n Mr & Mrs Nunn spend last winter here at the home of Mrs J B Cawthon.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n *The remains of Mrs Eliza Byrd, 90 yrs of age who passed away at her late home in<\/p>\n Etowah, Tenn. last Thursday afternoon (August 14, 1919) arrived in this city last Sunday for interment<\/p>\n in the family burial plot in Sandy Creek cemetery.\u00a0 Deceased was a resident of Walton<\/p>\n county years ago.\u00a0 She was mother to John & James Byrd and Mrs B S Renfrow.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n *The list of Confederate veterans is gradually diminishing until but a few remain.\u00a0 The<\/p>\n last to answer the final taps was Mr J B Parker, residing about a mile south of town,<\/p>\n whose death occurred Tuesday morning.\u00a0 The body was laid to rest Wednesday at<\/p>\n Cluster springs following impressive funeral services at the home and grave.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Contributed by Lois Danley and Sharon Watson<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" 1919 Aug 21– Last Saturday night, Sunday and Sunday night, 5 members of the Lundy family, W A, the father; Pete, Thomas, Joe and Charley, sons were arrested by county officers charged with the murder of John Mitchell, 32 yrs … Continue reading
