{"id":1657,"date":"2012-07-26T13:48:36","date_gmt":"2012-07-26T19:48:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/waltoncountyheritage.org\/wp\/?p=1657"},"modified":"2022-04-28T16:56:48","modified_gmt":"2022-04-28T21:56:48","slug":"the-defuniak-herald-may-1925-obituaries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/waltonpast2present.com\/wcgs\/2012\/07\/the-defuniak-herald-may-1925-obituaries\/","title":{"rendered":"The DeFuniak Herald &#8211; May 1925 &#8211; Obituaries"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>May 7, 1925 <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thomas J <strong>Lindsey<\/strong>, employee of the Britton Lumber Co, who resided at Mossy Head was fatally injured Thursday evening [April 30] about 1:30 when a tree he was cutting fell in the top of another tree, bending it nearly to the ground, when suddenly the falling tree freed itself and the other tree righted with such force as to sling one of its limbs off, the flying limb striking Mr Lindsey in the head.&nbsp; He was rushed to his home and medical aid was summoned. He passed away abt 10:45. Services were conducted at Hacoda, AL on Friday. He is survived by wife and 3 children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thomas <strong>Murphy<\/strong> died Wednesday last week. He was a native of Holmes Co, FL who would have been 50 yrs on Nov 15<sup>th<\/sup>.&nbsp; Leaves a wife and 7 children, 2 married daughters and one son who were summoned home; 4 sisters and on brother. (long article)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>May 14, 1925<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wilma <strong>McLean<\/strong>, 3 yr daughter of Mr &amp; Mrs J O McLean passed away Apr 29<sup>th<\/sup>. She was buried at Hatcher cemetery Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mrs John <strong>Peacock<\/strong> (nee Georgia Pearly <strong>Cousins<\/strong>) passed away in Texas, Thursday May 7<sup>th<\/sup>. Mr &amp; Mrs Peacock had been on a visit to that state from their home in Tulsa, OK. The body was carried to her sister, Mrs Powell at Birmingham, AL where burial took place the following Saturday.&nbsp; She is survived by husband and two children; numerous sisters and brothers, among them Mrs J Moss Flournoy of Vernon, FL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mrs A C S <strong>Smyth<\/strong> wife of the late Rector of St Agatha\u2019s died at her home in Winston Salem, NC on Monday May 4<sup>th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>May 28, 1925<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">W C <strong>Marler\u2019s<\/strong> 2 \u00bd yr old&nbsp; son drowned Wednesday as a result of falling from a boat into the waters of East Pass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Herman Ellis <strong>Thompson<\/strong>, a student at Howard College at Birmingham, lost his life in the undertow near Florosa Inn in Okaloosa county on Wednesday last week. .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">J B (Bullie) <strong>Alford<\/strong> of Alaqua died last Sunday [May 24, 1925].
