{"id":1710,"date":"2012-07-30T18:34:07","date_gmt":"2012-07-31T00:34:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/waltoncountyheritage.org\/wp\/?p=1710"},"modified":"2012-07-30T18:34:07","modified_gmt":"2012-07-31T00:34:07","slug":"the-defuniak-herald-february-1937-obituaries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/waltonpast2present.com\/wcgs\/2012\/07\/the-defuniak-herald-february-1937-obituaries\/","title":{"rendered":"The DeFuniak Herald &#8211; February 1937 &#8211; Obituaries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>1937 Feb 11 &#8211; T W <strong>Rushing<\/strong> died at his home in Knox Hill community January 13<sup>th<\/sup> 1937.\u00a0 Mr Rushing<\/p>\n<p>was born Aug 13 1851, having reached age of 86 at time of his death.\u00a0 He is survived by 5<\/p>\n<p>sons M P, R W, T P of Ponce de Leon, Joe of Niceville and K K of Texas; one daughter,<\/p>\n<p>Mrs M D <strong>Floyd<\/strong> of Ponce de Leon.\u00a0 Internment was Euchee Valley Cemetery.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>1937 Feb 18 &#8211; The news last Thursday of the tragic death of Mr. &amp; Mrs.\u00a0 S I <strong>Williams<\/strong>\u00a0 at Fort Pierce<\/p>\n<p>came as a shock to people.\u00a0 Mrs. Alto <strong>Adams<\/strong> daughter of the deceased couple, had gone to<\/p>\n<p>visit her mother and found her dead. While officers were investigating her death, the body<\/p>\n<p>of her husband was found in burned out-building.\u00a0 The Coroner&#8217;s jury found Mr Williams<\/p>\n<p>had shot his wife, then going to out-building and set fire to it and shot himself.\u00a0\u00a0 Funeral<\/p>\n<p>services for Mrs Williams\u00a0 were held Friday morning, Feb. 12<sup>th\u00a0 <\/sup>\u00a0and internment was in Gum Creek<\/p>\n<p>cemetery.\u00a0 Services for Mr Williams were held Friday, Feb 12<sup>th<\/sup> afternoon at Chapel Hill.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mrs J J <strong>Adams<\/strong>, widow of the late J J <strong>Adams<\/strong>, familiarly known as &#8216;Uncle <strong>Jeff&#8221;<\/strong>, passed away<\/p>\n<p>at Crestview Tuesday and was buried at Hatcher yesterday (Wednesday). She had reached the<\/p>\n<p>age of 92 yrs.<\/p>\n<p>Mr &amp; Mrs Brown <strong>Miller<\/strong> of Bonifay are the proud parents of a 9 lb son, <strong>Brown<\/strong> Jr, born on<\/p>\n<p>Sunday, Feb 7.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>M A <strong>McLeod<\/strong> 68, died at Florala, Feb 10<sup>th<\/sup> and was buried in Elam cemetery near Goshen.<\/p>\n<p>He is survived by his wife and seven children, two of whom are Frank &amp; E T <strong>McLeod<\/strong>, local<\/p>\n<p>residents.\u00a0\u00a0 Mr &amp; Mrs DeVaughn <strong>Pitts<\/strong> of Pensacola announces the birth of an 8 lb girl on May<\/p>\n<p>16<sup>th<\/sup> . The baby will bear the name <strong>Dorothy<\/strong> <strong>Yvonne<\/strong>, Mrs Pitts will be remembered as<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dollye<\/strong> <strong>Howell<\/strong> formerly of New Home.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Word was received here last week of the death of Erick <strong>Lund<\/strong> at his home in Murdock, Minn.<\/p>\n<p>The deceased was former resident of Santa Rosa.\u00a0 Jack <strong>Dempsey<\/strong>, an old time resident of<\/p>\n<p>Defuniak passed away in his hom in Toledo, Ohio last week.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>More about Rev. J E <strong>West<\/strong>, whose death was published last week. <strong>John<\/strong> <strong>Edgar<\/strong> <strong>West<\/strong>\u00a0 was born<\/p>\n<p>Dec 12 1874 in Thomas Co. Ga, moved with his parents at early age, spent most of his life in<\/p>\n<p>Holmes and Walton counties.
