{"id":1923,"date":"2013-05-09T16:55:06","date_gmt":"2013-05-09T22:55:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/waltoncountyheritage.org\/wp\/?p=1923"},"modified":"2013-05-09T16:55:06","modified_gmt":"2013-05-09T22:55:06","slug":"the-defuniak-herald-august-25-1960-obituaries-memorial-notices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/waltonpast2present.com\/wcgs\/2013\/05\/the-defuniak-herald-august-25-1960-obituaries-memorial-notices\/","title":{"rendered":"The DeFuniak Herald &#8211; August 25, 1960 Obituaries &#038; Memorial notices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>1960 Aug 25<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mrs <b>Anna<\/b> <b>King<\/b> <b>Anderson<\/b> 64, died Sunday Aug 21 at her home.\u00a0 A native and life-<\/p>\n<p>long resident of Walton, she resided in DeFuniak for the past 50 yrs.\u00a0 Funeral was held at<\/p>\n<p>3:00 from the First Baptist church with interment in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.\u00a0 Mrs<\/p>\n<p>Anderson is survived by one son, Albert J <b>Anderson<\/b>, 2 daughters, Mrs Sallie Mae <b>Parker<\/b>,<\/p>\n<p>and Mrs Jeanette <b>McDinald<\/b>; 2 brothers D R <b>King<\/b> &amp; J B <b>King<\/b>; one sister Mrs Alice K<\/p>\n<p><b>Wadsworth<\/b>; 5 grandchildren &amp; 4 gr grands.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mrs <b>Janette<\/b> T <b>Lula<\/b> <b>Fountain<\/b> 89, died Saturday Aug 20 at the home of her daugher, Mrs<\/p>\n<p><b>Ella<\/b> <b>Mae<\/b> <b>Jones<\/b> in north Santa Rosa Co.\u00a0 She had lived with her daughter for the past<\/p>\n<p>year, but was a native of Milton.\u00a0 Survivors are Mrs Jones, Mrs Allie <b>Heath<\/b>, 3 sons,<\/p>\n<p><b>Eddie<\/b> Lee, M T &amp; J <b>Conrad<\/b> Fountain, 3 half brothers,\u00a0 <b>Leon<\/b>, <b>George<\/b> &amp; <b>Arthur<\/b> <b>Lewis<\/b>,<\/p>\n<p>one half sister Mrs Fred <b>West<\/b> and 16 grandchildren.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MEMORIAL NOTICES<\/p>\n<p><b>Arnie<\/b> <b>Lee<\/b> <b>Henley<\/b> was born Aug 24 1915 to the late Mr &amp; Mrs W M<\/p>\n<p>Henley of Glendale, Fla.\u00a0 He served 4 years in U S Navy, was at Pearl Harbor on<\/p>\n<p>Dec 7 1941.\u00a0 He was married Apr 12 1948 to the former Miss <b>Joyce<\/b> <b>Loraine<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Sowell<\/b> of Everett, Washington.\u00a0 He was a photographer by trade and had a studio<\/p>\n<p>at Elk Grove, Calif, at the time of his death Jun 24 at Oakland Navy Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>Funeral was held Jun 19 in Oak Hill Memorial Chapel of Roses in San Jose, Calif.<\/p>\n<p>Interment was private at Oak Hill Memorial Park, San Jose, Calif.\u00a0 He leaves a<\/p>\n<p>wife, <b>Joyce<\/b>, son <b>Walter<\/b>, daughter <b>Arna<\/b>; 2 sisters Mrs W E <b>Cox<\/b> &amp; <b>Rose<\/b> Henley;<\/p>\n<p>3 brothers <b>King<\/b>, <b>Bill<\/b> &amp; <b>Herbert<\/b> Henley, 4 nephews, 6 nieces and one grand niece.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>James<\/b> <b>Luther<\/b>\u00a0 <b>&#8216;Newt&#8217;<\/b> <b>Godwin<\/b> born Aug 20 1923 to Mr &amp; Mrs <b>Luther<\/b> <b>Godwin<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>He was a veteran of WWII, seeing abt 3 yrs overseas duty.\u00a0 He was married to the<\/p>\n<p>former Miss <b>Robbie<\/b> <b>Register<\/b> of Bonifay.\u00a0 To this union was born 2 sons, <b>Douglass<\/b><\/p>\n<p>and <b>Charles<\/b>.\u00a0 Newt departed this life on Aug 5 1960 in the Veterans Hospital in<\/p>\n<p>Birmingham, Ala. Survivors also include his parents, <b>Luther<\/b> &amp; <b>Clyde<\/b>, his brother,<\/p>\n<p><b>Jerry<\/b>, aunts, uncles &amp; cousins.\u00a0\u00a0 He was laid to rest at Gum Creek Cemetery on Aug 9.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MORE OBITUARIES<\/p>\n<p><b>William M Pennington,\u00a0<\/b>34,<b> Martha Pennington<\/b> his 4 yr-old daugher,<b> &amp; Mrs Elvie Karina Gillis, <\/b>22,<\/p>\n<p>his sister, died early Sunday Aug 21 after being involved in an auto accident north of<\/p>\n<p>Milton.\u00a0 Mr Pennington &amp; Mrs Gillis died instantly and the child died about 2 hrs later<\/p>\n<p>in a Santa Rosa Hospital.\u00a0\u00a0 Mr Pennington&#8217;s wife, <b>Mrs Emily Lue Pennington, <\/b>30, died<\/p>\n<p>early Monday in a Pensacola hospital.\u00a0\u00a0 The family was enroute to visit Mr &amp; Mrs <b>Joseph<\/b><\/p>\n<p>H <b>Pennington<\/b>, the deceased parents.\u00a0\u00a0 Both were natives of Holmes co.\u00a0 In addition to<\/p>\n<p>his parents, Mr Pennington is survived by a son, <b>Joseph<\/b> <b>Everette<\/b> and a daughter, <b>Mary<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Louise<\/b>. The Pennington family was living in Chalmette, La.\u00a0 Mrs Gillis, besides her<\/p>\n<p>parents is survived by a 3 yr old son, <b>Richard<\/b> <b>Angus<\/b>, who was uninjuried in the wreck<\/p>\n<p>and her husband <b>Angus<\/b> D <b>Gillis<\/b> of New Orleans.
