January 20, 1927:

Carl Slay was shot in the neck about 2 am Wednesday morning by Eva Dell Hurley and his condition is said to be serious. The woman who did the shooting is locked up in Walton county jail. Young Slay who is about 20 yrs of age, had called at the house several times during earlier hours of night and was shot by the woman at the time of last visit. His father Lonzo Slay said he was standing in street in front of home when he was shot. Inmates of the home claim he was trying to break in home. The house where the shooting occurred is in the section of the town called Mt Nebo – at the mill quarters.
