February 11, 1965

James Alter Nance 38 died Sunday Feb 7 1965.  Mr Nance was native of Lakewood and lifelong resident of Walton Co.  He was a veteran of WWII. Survivors include his widow, Mrs Maudree Nance, parents, Mr & Mrs C A Nance, 3 daus Linda Carroll, Glenda Dianne and Debra Kay Nance, 4 sons Jimmy Harold, William Donald, David Franklin and James Alter Nance Jr.  Services held Wednesday, interment in Magnolia.

“Uncle” Sam T Harrison 85 of Oak Grove died Friday Feb 5 at his home.  A native of Lowery AL he resided in Walton the last 48 yrs. Services held Sunday at Oak Grove Baptist church with burial followed at the church cemetery.  Survivors are 10 sons, H F, W C, Archie, R E, Oscar, J I, Ulysse, Alton (Bud), Dalton, & Grady;  2 daughters, Mrs I R Maloy & Miss Annie Bell Harrison, a brother Frank Harrison.

Paul B Reichermann 78, died Monday Feb 1 1965. He was a native of Germany and had been a resident of Defuniak for past 21 years. Surviving is his widow, Mrs Margaret Reichermann. Services held Wednesday from Clary Funeral Home Chapel, burial followed in Magnolia Cemetery.

Mr & Mrs M B Kelley celebrated their 55 wedding anniversary on Saturday Jan 20th 1965.

January 21, 1965

Mrs Martha Jane Adkison, 70, a resident of Glendale, died Monday at a local hospital.  A native of Geneva Co AL, she resided in Walton co for 40 yrs.  Services were Thursday from Glendale Baptist with interment followed in Gum Creek cemetery.  Mrs Adkison is survived by husband Jeffie Adkison and 3 daughters, Mrs Mavis York, Mrs Earnestine Barnes and Mrs Pansy Prescott, 17 gr and 18 gr grs.

January 10, 1965

Mrs Lela Hurley, 84, died Tuesday morning Jan 3 in local hospital. A native of AL she resided in Walton Co for past 70 yrs. Survivors are husband E D Hurley , Walker her son, and 5 daughters Mrs Bamma Lawrence, Mrs Alma McMulan, Mrs Ivon DeCosena and Mrs Allie Cobb, all of DeFuniak Springs, and Mrs Juliette Owens of Pensacola; one sister Mrs Grace Hinote of Ocala, one brother Marion Hall of Def,; 11 gr and 17 gr grs. Services Tuesday from Cluster Springs Church with interment following in Cluster Springs Cemetery.

The DeFuniak Herald – December 6, 1962 Obituaries

Mr Earnest Amel Jackson, 36 of Ponce de Leon, died Thursday morning in Pensacola hospital.

A native and lifelong resident of Holmes Co, was just retired from Eglin AF Base. Services wer

held Sunday from Northside Bapt Church. Interment in Ponce de Leon Cemetery.  He is survived

by  his wife Mrs Mildred Louise Jackson, on son Billy and one daughter Lawanda all of Ponce

de Leon, his mother Mrs Pearlie Jackson, 2 brother James Earl & Carlton Jackson; 4 sisters Mrs

Ophelia Bryant, Mrs Elzona Padgett, Mrs Hazel Alexander, & Mrs Frances Miller.

 

Mrs Matilda N Danley 80 of Darlington died Saturday in local hospital. A native of Coffee Co.

and had resided in Darlington for past 25 yrs.  Services Monday from Lime Springs Methodist

Church, interment in Lime Springs Cemetery. Survivors William R Danley; 5 sons, R H, Dan,

Wausaw, Barney & Tank Danley; one sister Mrs Maggie Lee Day and a brother Bryant Nolin.

 

Mr Reuben C McGill age 50 died thursday in local hospital. A Native of Bay Co, he lived in

Defuniak for the past 10 yrs.  Survived by 5 brothers, Willie, Clifton, Earnest, Jim & Elmo Mc-

Gill, sister Lula Mae Goings.  The body was transferred to Panama City for services.

The DeFuniak Herald – December 1, 1960 Obituaries

Mr Delmar B Chamblee 41, of Ponce de Leon, died Sunday Nov 27 in Alabama Veteran’s Hospital, he was a native & life long resident of Ponce de Leon and a veteran of  WWII.  Graveside services were held Monday from the New Ponce de Leon cemetery. Survivors include his wife Mrs Annie Mae Chamblee, step mother Mrs Christine Chamblee, 3 brothers, Albert, _____, & Sherwood Chamblee; 3 sisters, Mrs Ida Ward, Mrs Corrine Bagley, & Mrs Lorene Hawthorne.

Mrs Lou H Burch 79, of Valley View died Monday Nov 21.  Mrs Burch was a native of Coffee Co, Al but had lived in this county for many years. Survivors include 3 daughters, Mrs Daley Rushing, Mrs Mattie Lee Burch & Mrs William Joe Davis; 5 sons, Dan, Fred, Edward, Eugene & Phillip Burch; 2 sisters, Mrs Maude Housman & Mrs Mamie Yates; 30 granchildren and several gr grands.

Ira Louis Brown 59, died Friday Nov 25.  Services were held on Sunday from the First Presbyterian church, with burial in the Steele cemetery.  Mr Brown was a native of Walton and had resided in DeFuniak most of his life.  At the time of his death he was assistant manager of Liberty National Life Insurance with 18 yrs service with the company.  Mr Brown is survived by his widow, Mrs Brady Lea Brown, one son, Donald, one daughter, Mrs Leo Fulton, 2 sisters, Mrs Texie Thomason & Mrs Hattie Hightower and 3 grandchildren.

Oscar Eugene Matthews, 69 died Sunday Nov 27 in Ponce de Leon.  He was a native of Selma, Ala and had been a resident for the past 59 yrs.  He is survived by his widow, Mrs Lou S Matthews, one daughter, Mrs J W Parshal, 6 sons, Dr A H, Dr W W, Dr E L, Dr O K, H A, and Eglon Matthews; one sister, Mrs Lizzie McCellen, 17 grandchildren and 3 gr grands. Services were held Monday with burial in New Ponce de Leon cemetery.

Mrs Dora M Hart 60, died Thursday Nov 17 in Orland hospital. Mrs Hart was a native of Holmes Co. Services were held Saturday Nov 19 from Northside Baptist church with burial in New Ponce de Leon cemetery. Survivors include her husband, John H Hart, 7 daughters, Mrs G W Redmon, Mrs G E Barley, Mrs S G Barnard, Mrs P R Hanson, Mrs R E Ramer, Mrs S G Gilmore, and Mrs R R Kelly; 5 sons, Glenn and N Bishop; Hilton, W H, and R F Hart, one brother Floyd Whitton, and a sister, Mrs Abbie Stanley, 23 grandchildren and 4 gr grands.

Mr Lee Roy Vann 76, of Oak Grove died Sunday, Nov 13.  Mr Vann was a native of

Butler Co, Ala and had lived in Walto for the past 60 yrs.  Survivors include his wife, Mrs

Murtle Vann, 4 sons, Thomas, O B, Vernon & Bozzie Vann; 2 daughters Mrs Ruthie Mae

Burgess & Mrs Ozie Lee Ammons, 3 brothers, Green, Tillis & Will Vann; 2 sisters, Mrs

Mollie Weaver & Mrs Ella Welch; 32 grandchildren & 21 gr grands.

Mrs Ila Padgett 59, of Westville, died Friday Oct 28.  Mrs Padgett was native of

Henry Co, Ala and had lived in Holmes Co for past 54 yrs.  Services were held Sunday from

Beulah Ann Baptist church, with interment in church cemetery. Survivors include her

husband,  Mr B B Padgett, 2 daughters, Mrs Ethelle Holmes & Mrs Bertie Lou Miller;

2 sisters, Mrs Irene Padgett & Mrs Thelma Amerson and 6 grandchildren.

 

Mr Barney Stephens, 60, passed away in a St Petersburg hospital Oct 21, he was a former

resident of Ponce de Leon.  Services were held Oct 24 from North Side Baptist church with

burial in New Ponce de Leon cemetery.  He is survived by 2 daughters, Mrs Annie Lee Hobbs,

and Mrs Cloie B Green; 2 sons, Tommy Lee & Marvin Lee Stephens & 5 grandchildren.

The DeFuniak Herald – October 27, 1960 Obituaries

Mrs Carrie Odom, 70, of DeFuniak, died Friday.  She was a native of Enterprise, Ala

and had lived here for the past 21 yrs.  Services were held Sunday with interment followed

in Magnolia.  Survivors include her husband, Mr A F Odom, a daughter Mrs Minnie

Carpenter; 2 sisters, Mrs Mary Whitt & Mrs Lee Wallace; 7 grandchildren & one gr grand.

 

Mrs Alice Leliar Deal, 83 of Red Bay, Fla passed away Wednesday Oct 19 in a rest home

at Panama City, Fla.  She had lived in Red Bay for past 12 yrs moving there from Holden,

Missouri.  She is survived by one daughter, Mrs –ena G Ross; 2 sons E V Goldsmith, &

M-Sgt Charles Goldsmith, 2 brothers, John Sanford & R R Sanford; 6 grandchildren

& 3 gr grands.  Services were held Friday at graveside in Red Bay cemetery.
