Neal F Ray, 71 of Piney Grove died Wednesday.  He was a native of Walton co and a life-

long resident.  Services were held Friday from Piney Grove Church with interment followed in

the church cemetery.  He is survived by his wife Mrs Lela Mae Ray, 3 sons Cletus, Dennis and

Mrs DeLeon Ray; one daughter Mrs Lucille Hanks and 5 grandchildren. (way they were listed).

 

Charles Monroe Adkison,62 of Darlington died Tuesday. Services were held from Gaskin

Baptist church with interment following in the church cemetery.  He is survived by 2 sons,

Alton & Arlon; one daughter Mrs Lala Gainey and 9 grandchildren.

 

Henry Brannon, 74, died July 7 in a DeFuniak hospital.  He was a native and lifelong resi-

dent of Walton Co.  Services were held July 10 with interment in Magnolia.  He is survived

by one daughter, Mrs Ruthie McManus; one brother Rosier; and 4 grandchildren.

 

Sumner Mann, formerly of DeFuniak and Brookline, Mass, died on June 22 at the

Mt Sinae Hospital, Miami Beach, Fl.  He was the beloved husband of Ida (Bowers),

Devoted father of Pauline Duke, Morton, Harriett & Phyllis Mann; loving son of Esther,

Grandfather of Dianne Rose Duke; and brother of Florence Rhodes and William Mann.

Services were held in Brookline, Mass, Sunday June 26.

 

Mrs Chassie Wilkerson Holman, 86, died in Biloxi, Miss on July 13. She was a native of

Walton Co.  Services were held July 15 with interment in Magnolia.  Mrs Holman is

survived by 5 daughters; Mrs Tarsa Mae Wells, Mrs Elzona Crosby, Mrs Peter Pollok,

and Mrs J D Stafford; 3 brothers, S P, D F, & M T Wilkerson, 2 sisters Mrs M D

Henderson & Mrs Milbra Bell.

Mrs Arkie Atha Blankenship 66, of Tarpon Springs died Tuesday in a Pinellas Co hospital.

A former resident of Sandy Creek she lived in Tarpon Springs for past 4 yrs.  Services were

held Thursday from Sandy Creek Baptist with interment in church cemetery.  She is survived

by 3 sons; Charles D, J D  & Wyman; one daughter Mrs S L Padgett, 3 sisters, Mrs P L Ham,

Mrs Ada West, & Mrs Gussie Hahn; 3 brothers S C, H A & J C  Whitton, 17 granchildren &

4 gr grands.

 

Mrs Mollie Truett 73, passed away last Monday in Crestview hospital.  She was a resident of

Gaskin, Fla all her life until she moved to Frostproof, Fla several months ago.  Services

were held Wednesday morning with burial in Gaskin cemetery.  Survivors are 2 daughters,

Mrs Florence Vestal & Mrs Adell Whaley, one son Sherman Truett; 2 brothers Walton &

Walker Davis; one sister Mrs Christine Carr and 6 grandchildren.

George Alexander Brown [gravestone has Alexander G. Brown] 81, passed away Jun 17, at the residence of his son John Alex Brown in Freeport.  He was a native and lifelong resident of Walton. Services were held on Sunday June 19 from graveside in Almarant Cemetery in Laurel Hill. He is survived by his wife, Mrs Minnie Ola Brown, 3 daughters Mrs Bell Oliver, Mrs Jimmie Lou Adair & Miss Flora Brown; 4 sons, John Alex, Edward F, Floyd D and Dan Henry Brown; 3 brothers, R B, F T & O H Brown; one sister Mrs S A Dilley, 16 grandchildren & 6 gr grands. Mrs Juanita Kent Mears 38, passed away in Milton Jun 18. She was a native of Jackson Co. and made her home in Freeport. Services held Wednesday with burial in Hatcher Cemetery. Mrs Mears is survived by her mother, Maude Padgett Kent, one brother, John B Kent, 3 sisters, Mrs Laverne Kennion, Mrs Lois Hansford, and Mrs Lola Caswell. Mrs Duer Alford Pierce 60, passed away June 20. She was native of Walton and resided in Gaskin. Services were held in Gaskin with burial in the family cemetery on the Pierce farm.  Survivors are her husband, Harley Von Pierce, her mother Mrs Strammer Johnson.

Rev William Franklin Brannon 49, of Tucson Ariz died Saturday June 18 in Ariz hospital. A native of Ponce de Leon, he resided in Tucson for past 4 yrs. Services were held Friday with interment followed in New Ponce de Leon cemetery. Survived by his wife, Mrs Erin Brannon, 3 sons Howard, Calvin & Franklin, 5 daughters, Mrs Mavis Sturgull, Misses Mary Martha, Bricilla & Elizabeth Elaine Brannon; 3 brothers Alfred, Oscar & Aubrey Brannon; 7 sisters, Mrs Ella Hester, Mrs Ola Bearden, Mrs Nettie Grave, Mrs Dove Scalf, Mrs Cecil Thorpe, Mrs Avis Norris & Mrs Louis Dyle. The DeFuniak Herald – April 28, 1960 Obituaries

Mrs Grace Y McSween 73, died Monday Apr 25 in local hospital. She was a native of Baltimore, MD, and had resided in DeFuniak since 1916.  Services held today with burial in Magnolia. Mrs McSween is survived by one son, Harry Y McSween, on step daughter, Mrs Theron Nesbitt, on step son Dr J C McSween; 2 sisters Mrs S W Dupuy and Mrs Edna Y Long and 3 grandchildren.

Ted R Bowers, 54 died Saturday Apr 22 in home of son Leo Bowers of  Ponce de Leon. He was a native of Walton. Survivors include his wife, Mrs Berria Bowers, 2 sons, Ballard E & Leo Bowers, 2 daughters Mrs Clifton Bell & Miss Melva Bowers, 2 brothers Eluid & Gus Bowers, 3 sisters Mrs Abbie Hunt, Mrs Hattie Johnson & Mrs Addie Rushing and 5 grandchildren.  Services were held Monday with burial in New Ponce de Leon cemetery.

a member of Methodist Church & a Mason; Survivors are his wife Mrs Vircey Miles Bedsole,

3 daughters, Mrs Ann Wilson, Mrs Mary Andrews & Mrs Glyndol Commander; a brother

Monroe Bedsole, J C Bedsole, Mrs Clara Sansom & Mrs Rosade Clark, Alice Lee, and

Mrs Gussie Danna McCall Parker 65, died Thursday Mar 10 at her home.  She was a native

of Brooklyn.  Services were held sudnay with interment in Magnolia. She is survived by

husband, Walter Parker, 4 sons CWO Ben F, Edward M, Paul E and James B; 4 daughters,

Mrs Mary F Rutledge, Mrs Nancy L Butts, Mrs Wilmer J Hinote & Mrs Frances

Chace; 4 sisters Mrs A H Green, Mrs Nettie Holmes, Mrs Bessie Danford & Mrs Burton

B Murray and 17 grandchildren.

 

Carlton McGriff – services were held Tuesday Mar 8, with interment in the Pinecrest Cemetery,

he died Sunday, Mar 6 at Ft Pierce, Fla.  He was 48 yrs and had removed to Coca, Fla  22 yrs

ago, a veteran of WWII.  Survived by his wife Mrs Annena Daniel McGriff and one daughter

Susanne, 2 brothers E & J W, a sister Mrs W C Hadley.

 

Daniel D Butts 69, died Friday Mar 11 at his home in Sandy Creek, being a native of Walton

Co.  Services held Sunday at Sandy Creek Baptist church, with burial followed in church

Cemetery.  He is survived by his wife Mrs Mary Catherine Butts; a son Louis F; 3 daughters

Mrs Perry Anderson, Mrs Lonie Garrett & Mrs Murdock Ray; 20 grandchildren & 16 gr

grands.

Mrs T P Andrews 77 died Wednesday Mar 2, she was a native of Holmes Co and resided in DeFuniak for past 37 years.  Services were held Friday. Survived by one daughter Mrs Boggan Wright; 4 sons, Leo, Glenn, Hubert & Gay; one sister Mrs Dempse Merrell; 18 grandchildren & 7 gr grands.

Mack Goddin – Graveside services were held Friday Mar 4 in Mt Zion Cemetery near Ponce de Leon, for Mack Goddin who died on Wednesday at home of his daughter, Mrs Mallie Goddin. He was a native of Holmes Co.

Miss Gussie Hamilton died Wednesday [March 2, 1960] at local hospital. Services were held Saturday with interment in Magnolia.  She was a native and lifelong resident.

Mrs Sarah Dawkins Wesley (see Mar 3 1960) 64, widow of the late Rev Herman P Wesley died Sunday in a Flomaton hospital.  Services were held Monday, graveside services at Magnolia. Survivors are 2 sons James R & John F; sister Mrs W E Crown and 6 granchildren.

Daniel Pressley Lindsey 82, died Sunday Mar 6, in home of a son Morris Lindsey.  A native of Butler Co, Ala he has lived in Walton for past 60 yrs.  Services held Tuesday  with interment in Cluster Springs Cemetery. Survived by 2 sons, Morris & Rev Gosper Lindsey, 2 brothers, Rev E C & B O Lindsey; one sister Mrs Alice Alford.

Mrs Ada Anna Huggins 84, died Saturday Mar 5, services were held Monday with burial in Otter Creek cemetery.  Survived by on sister, Mrs Emma Andrews, 4 step-sons, ClarenceClaude, Curtis & Marcus Huggins; 2 step daughters, Mrs Monett Arrants & Mrs John Singletary.

The Reverend Herman Wesley, 65, died on Thursday at the home of his sister, Mrs B J Brown, Sr.  He was a native of Pt Washington.  Services were held Saturday with interment in Magnolia. He is survived by his wife, Mrs Sarah D Wesley; 2 sons John F & James H; one brother, Clyde H; 2 sisters Mrs B J Brown Sr & Miss Mary Wesley.

Miss Della Padgett 70, of Leonia died Thursday. She was a native of Holmes Co. Services held Saturday from Beulah Ann Baptist church with interment following in the church cemetery.  She is survived by one brother F A Padgett, one sister, Mrs Sally Frazier; one nephew Ray Gillis, 3 nieces Mrs Baxter Kirkland, Mrs Rita Lee Nickles & Mrs Wynell Holt.

Mrs Mary Ann Elizabeth Ammons 76, of Ponce De Leon died Sunday Feb 14.

A native of Holmes Co. Services were held Tuesday  with interment in the New Ponce

de Leon cemetery.  She is survived by her husband, Marion A Ammons, 5 sons, Luther M,

Henry O, Casper, Alpha & Aubrey; 4 daughters, Mrs Annie Lee Forehand, Mrs Ted

Bowers, Mrs Timothy Ingram & Mrs Myrtle A Bullard; 2 brothers Jim & Archie Hatcher,

30 grandchildren & 31 gr grands.

 

Mrs Millie M Raybourn 78, died Monday Feb 15 at the home of her daughter Mrs Hub

Jackson, she was a native and lifelong resident of Walton.  Services were held Wednesday

with interment following in Magnolia.  Survivors are 3 sons, Daniel C, Clifton & John C;

5 daughters, Mrs Marie Jackson, Mrs Bernice Vann, Mrs Jack Kate Hunt, Mrs Inez Seavers,

and Mrs Evelyn Carrouthers, 15 grandchildren and 14 gr grands.

 

Mr Kull Joseph McHenry 74 died Saturday Feb 13 in a Pensacola hospital. A native of Gilmer,

Texas he was retired L & N Railroad agent.  Services held Monday with interment followed

In the Euchee Valley cemetery.  He is survived by his wife, Mrs Elizabeth McHenry, 2 sons,

Lum & W L; 5 daughters Mrs Jack Robinson, Mrs Alfred Brannon, Mrs C F Hightower, Mrs

Jessie Floyd & Mrs Dannie Bird, one brother P L McHenry, one sister Mrs C M Beardon, 31

Grandchildren and 10 gr grands.

 

James Franklin Wardwell Jr 11 mos son of Mr & Mrs James F Wardwell died Wednesday

Feb 10 at home.  Services were held Friday with interment in Magnolia.  Besides his

Parents, he is survived by 2 brothers Ronald Wayne & Robert Stephen; paternal gr parents,

Mr & Mrs James K Wardwell and maternal grfather Mr L S Duke.
