The DeFuniak Herald – February 21, 1946

Mrs Roshey McGowan, 39  died at her home Wednesday. She was a native of Holmes Co and funeral held from Baptist church in Ponce de Leon on Thursday, Feb 14, with interment following in the Ponce de Leon Cemetery.

Rev Pitt Mercer Scott Sr, 69 died Friday Feb 15, he was born in Washington Co. Florida. Services were held Sandy Creek church Sunday . Surviving are his wife, former Celia Jane Wilkes, 2 sons, Pitt Jr, & Clark Scott, 2 daughters, Mrs T D Sutton & Mrs J W Alfson.

The DeFuniak Herald – February 21, 1946

Robert Cluster Simmons, the 2 month old son of Mr & Mrs Chester C Simmons died in Dothan, Ala on Tuesday Feb 1.  Funeral held at Duncan church, near Chipley on Thursday, interment followed in Duncan cemetery.

The DeFuniak Herald – February 21, 1946

Isaiah S Gomillion passed away at his home near Liberty, on Wednesday, Feb 13. He was born in Walton Co and was 56 yrs of age. Funeral held at Cluster Springs church on Thursday, Feb 14 with interment in Cluster Springs Cemetery. Survivors include wife, 5 daughters, Mrs Anna Mae Griffin, Mrs Dore Mae Hobbs, Mrs Myrtice Kirkland, Mary Lou & Rhogene Gomillion, 4 sons; James E, Cecil, Joel & Carl Gomillion.

The DeFuniak Herald – February 21, 1946

L P Campbell 83, died Thursday. He was born in Euchee Valley. Services were held Friday of last week. Mr Campbell’s father Dr D L was a physician with Dr Angus Gillis, were county’s first two physicians. Interment was in Magnolia by the side of his wife who preceded him in death abt 2 yrs ago.

The DeFuniak Herald – February 14, 1946

Ira H Wambles, 57, died Monday Feb 11. He was a native of Pike Co, Ala and had resided here for 3 yrs.  Services were Wednesday in Gum Creek Church. Survivors include wife, 4 daughters, Mrs Gladys Briggs, Mrs Ray Mill Knighton, Mrs Ruth Austin, & Mrs Johnnie Muriel Kelly; 3 sons, James, Fred & Buster Wambles. Interment was in Gum Creek Cemetery.

The DeFuniak Herald – February 14, 1946

Mrs Bessie Burnham’s funeral rites were held at Marianna on Monday.  Mrs Burnham, 56 was widow of Charles Burnham. Services were held at home of her sister Mrs Paul Long, interment was made in Riverside Cemetery.  Survivors are son Charles F Burnham, a daughter Mrs Darcy Tatum, sisters, Mrs Edna Long, Mrs S W DuPre, and Mrs J C McSween.

The DeFuniak Herald – February 14, 1946

Klein Derham from Luverne drowned in Bay Branch in an automobile accident.

Noel C Kinton, the driver is under $1,000 bond on charge of manslaughter, the other

two other  passengers, Darley Wilburn & Wm Myrick who  escaped injury were dis-

charged soldiers on the way home to Panama City.  Sheriff said today that evidence has

been found involving another car being involved.  Sheriff says he talked to driver of car

only minutes before the accident and Kent admitted to drinking, he allowed them to

continue after changing drivers.
