The following from a recent number of the Liberty, Ind., Herald which was sent us without date will be of interest to the many friends this good old man while spending several winters here in by gone days:

The funeral of [Christopher Collins] Beeler took place from the residence in East Seminary street where at 8 o’clock Saturday morning there assembled a large number of the friends of the departed to pay a last tribute to one they had known and respected in his life. Rev. W. B. Farmer conducted a service of prayer and the Methodist choir sang two appropriate hymns. The funeral cortege was then formed and proceded to Elkhorn cemetery, where the funeral services were concluded. Mr. Farmer preaching a short but very appropriate discourse, and paid deserved tribute to the deceased. The memoir written by C. W. Stivers was ready by Mr. Farmer, and the same published elsewhere in this issue of the Herald. A concourse of old friends and neighbors were at the cemetery chapel to attend the funeral. The mortal remains of the departed were laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery where he had so often in life stood at the bier of loved ones and companions of his youth and early manhood.

His son, Clark Beeler, of Freemont, Mich., was here to attend his father’s funeral, but on account of severe illness, Allen Beeler, who has so devotedly looked after his father’s welfare, was not able to go to the cemetery.

Helen [Campbell], the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Campbell was taken ill last Friday [September 9, 1910] and in a few hours had passed away in spite of every effort that could be used to relieve her. The funeral was held Sunday the interment being in the family lot at the Valley cemetery.

The death of little children is always one of the saddest and when it came as sudden like this it seems doubly so. The little one was the idol of everyone who knew her, her sweet winsome ways making her a general favorite, and the deeply bereaved parents are not alone in their sorrow.

Along with the many other sad things which have occurred this week was the sudden death of Miss Kate McKinnon who died at her home here about 8 o’clock yesterday morning. She was the sister of [John Love McKinnon] and [Alexander Douglass] McKinnon, all of whom have a host of friends who will mourn her loss. Miss McKinnon was a member of the Presbyterian Church of this place but she will be taken to the Valley Church for burial today.

Born: Last Monday [August 22, 1910], a ten pound baby girl to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Drake. We thought Walter looked kinder proud Tuesday but this accounts for his actions.

The death of Mrs. Jennie Edge, which occurred yesterday morning about 2 o’clock in Pensacola where she had gone some time ago for treatment was an unexpected shock to her many friends and relatives of this place. Earnest Edge, her son and Mrs. W. T. May, her stepdaughter left here for Crestview to meet the body which was brought here for burial yesterday. Mrs. Edge was a member of the Presbyterian Valley Church and her death will be a sad loss to all those who knew her. A Sad Death

As a result of an accident which was published in THE BREEZE last week and which was not thought at the time to be of a serious nature resulted last Saturday in the death of Mrs. Sallie Gray, who lives about two miles north of town. Mrs. Gray was well known in this section and she leaves a large number of children whom are all grown to mourn her loss.

The funeral took place at her home last Sunday, the services being conducted by Rev. W. D. Turnley, who was pastor of the [Baptist] church in which she was a member. THE BREEZE takes this means of expressing its sympathy to all those afflicted in the hour of their bereavement.

As the result of an accident which occurred Tuesday morning about ten o’clock near Mossyhead, and which resulted in the instant death of a man by the name of Shelly and John Hulion who died about four hours after the accident and two more who received injuries, one of which was a man by the name of Harlow, who was firing at the time was badly burned and the other was John Hinote, who received a broken thigh and other injuries and who was sent to Pensacola that evening for treatment. How the accident occurred is at present not known, but the explosion was of such force that it was heard for miles around. Dr. [Daniel Hutchison] Simmons and Dr. [Charles Braxton] McKinnon left here for the scene as soon as the news reached this place and immediately attended the injured.

Up to the time of going to press no other particulars can be learned though an effort has been made by us to do so. We understand that the mill was the property of Chas. Mitchell, John Hinote and Will Fowler, all of whom like those receiving the injuries being well known in this section.

There was a large crew of men at work when the explosion occurred and it is a wonder that more were not seriously injured. The boiler is a total wreck, both ends of it being blown out.

Our sympathy goes out to Mr. and Mrs. J. A. McDonald in the death of their little girl [Roberta McDonald] last week. The loss seems the heavier in that the little one was the only girl and one of the twins.
