H. Gillet with a party are touring in Florida looking out for a suitable locality for a winter Chautauqua and will return to Jacksonville on the 12th inst.\u201d Charles C. Banfill saw that notice while attending a conference in Jacksonville and contacted Gillet, inviting him to see the small town then known as Lake de Funiak. John L. McKinnon, in <em>History of Walton County<\/em>, described the events that followed: \u201cDr. Gillet and Rev. C. C. McLean returned with him. It rained and poured for several days. . . . They looked over the grounds between showers and held an interview with the <g class=\"gr_ gr_11 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del\" id=\"11\" data-gr-id=\"11\">land owners<\/g> and were very much pleased with the situation and prospects ahead. So, in a little <g class=\"gr_ gr_12 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep\" id=\"12\" data-gr-id=\"12\">while<\/g> all the arrangements were consummated for the Florida Winter Chautauqua to have its home here.\u201d Rev. Dr. August H.
