Chipley, Nov 7. A tree cut [by his] three older brothers fell on the two year old son of Mr. and Mrs. N. B. Hays, of this place, this morning, causing an instant and horrible death. The little one was playing about the roots of the tree, while his brothers were cutting the tree with others for fire wood.
The tree fell rather suddenly, before the child could be snatched from beneath it. Its brains were dashed out by the falling timber and its face and head were mangled into an unrecognizable match. Mr. Hays was absent at the time, while Mrs. Hays was at her home. —Pensacola Journal
