1921 May 26– Mrs Mary J McLeod died Thursday May 19 1921 after months of suffering. Funeral services on Friday and burial was in the family plot at Defuniak Cemetery.  Miss Mary Jeannette Anderson was born to Mr & Mrs John C Anderson on March 30, 1846.  On Mar 2 1872 she was married to Wm B McLeod and there were 6 children; John W, Charles A, Norman L, Walter A, Sarah & Kate McLeod, all surviving and living in DeFuniak except Walter A of Mobile, AL.

 

Claude Martin, saw filer at the Harbison Lumber Co was shot & killed last Sunday by Roy Holmes, engineer, on one of the company’s log trains. One shot fired penetrated Martin’s lungs and going through the wall of the house Martin in which he lived.  Holmes was committed to jail until grand jury meets in September. (Long article) His body was shipped to Laurel, MS Monday. Martin leaves wife and one child, while Roy Holmes has a wife and 3 children.

 

1921 May 5– John D Cameron was found dead in his bed at Hotel Walton yesterday (Wednesday). He was about 60 yrs of age and from New Orleans.  A note found in his room said he felt he would not live much longer and requested an Allen Williamson of Olean, NY be notified. The body was shipped to Swift Falls, Canada.
