Joel Turner Alford was born on May 2, 1929. He and his wife had six children and attended Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Alford was a heavy equipment operator who worked in law enforcement for twelve years. He was at various times the Chief Deputy for the Walton County Sheriff’s Department and the Chief of Police for the City of DeFuniak Springs. He attended and successfully completed the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. He made an unsuccessful run for Walton County Sheriff in 1976. He died on February 6, 1995.
