Obituaries

December 1916

December 21, 1916: H. L. Berry of San Diego, California, had been killed by accidental discharge of pistol while engaged in cleaning the weapon. He was a former citizen of DeFuniak Springs, having moved with his family to California something like three years ago.

Undated: Last Thursday night a bridge across Shoal river, right above Crestview, collapsed with the result that Mrs. J. C. Owens and little daughter together, with part of the team, were drowned. Mr. Owens who formerly lived in the Alaqua neighborhood was moving with his family to Okaloosa County and arrived at the bridge after nightfall unknowing that it had been condemned and was unsafe, hence the deplorable accident. The body of Mrs. Owens was found days later about a mile down river. The body of the little girl has not yet been recovered.
