The DeFuniak Herald – July 1919 – Obituaries

July 3, 1919:

One of the most brutal and cold blooded murders in history of Walton Co occurred near Gaskin Tuesday of last week, June 24, Mr A B Green being the victim. Mr Tallie Alford a resident of Gaskin approached Mr A B Green, the taxi man of Florala engaged him to convey him to his home, which is about 11 miles southeast of Florala.  Alford invited a couple of friends to accompany him on the trip.  Alford lived about a mile distant with his father, Marion Alford and Green proceeded to take him there, about one quarter of a mile the car turned off  the road.  Only Mr Green and Mr Alford know why.  When Green was missed, Sheriff Bell went looking and found the body and arrested Alford after hearing the story.  He caught up with Alford and Jack Holman sitting a ford car alongside of the highway. After doing some checking he found the body where it had lay for 3 days. Alford told Sheriff that Holman had murdered the man.  The Sheriff said he would go get Holman and bring him in, Alford said no need, he had done the job himself.   The ground looked as if there might have been a struggle. The body showed that Green was shot in face and head from a distance, but second shot which struck the heart was from close range.   The jury found Tallie Alford guilty.
