June 3, 1943

Mrs Jay Laird, mother of Kylee Laird received a letter from her son. He was a prisoner of war in Germany. The letter requested cigarettes & shaving equipment, and was headed STALAG VII Grepruft, March 27 1943.

From Opp AL Newspapers:
Mrs Horace Danley passed away in Birmingham hospital on Monday May 24th.  Mrs Danley is the former Annie Jane Woodham. Services were held Wednesday from The First Methodist church. The deceased was born in Opp on Nov 30 1899 and lived here her entire lifetime.  On Apr 20 1921 she was married to H. D. Danley and to this union were born 3 children: Marjorie, Peggy & Horace Dewey Jr.  Survived by husband & 3 children, parents, Mr & Mrs N A Woodham all of Opp, 2 brothers J C & Willie Woodham.  [See also The Breeze, June 3, 1943, p. 6, and https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/29823020/annie-jane-danley )

June 10, 1943

Mr Charles Howard Hood of Westville, passed away at his residence in Westville on June 3rd. He is survived by his parents, Mr & Mrs C D Hood, several brothers and other relatives. Services were held at the home on June 4th, Internment was in Westville Cemetery. [See https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/53249054/charles-howard-hood]

L. C Ward, young son of Charlie Ward of  Freeport, was fatally burned on Tuesday May 25th at his home.  He was brought to the Lakeside Clinic where he passed away on May 27th. Services were held in Freeport on May 28th. James H Quinton, an old-time resident of Santa Rosa passed away at his home on May 28th. He is survived by one brother C H Quinton of Wine Gardens, MO.  Services were held on May 29th, internment was in Magnolia Cemetery. [See https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/28568157/james-h-quinton]
