1944 Aug 17– Funeral services for Gehune Berry Mixon, 43, of DeFuniak Springs who was fatally
injured in a fall from a water tank under construction at Barin will be held Tuesday at
Pine Level, Al church, interment follows at Pine Level Cemetery. Survivors are wife,
Mrs Mamie Mixon, children Elvin & Irene, mother Mrs Eva Barnes, 4 brothers, Sam,
Willie, Winford & Moricia Mixon; 3 half brothers J T, Winner & Robert Barnes, 2

James Cosson, 51, his 2 children James Cosson, Jr, 14; Winnie Cosson 12, Alfred Cosson 45,
(brother to James, were all killed when sticks of bombs fall near home of James, as Eglin bomber
misses target. Injured were Mrs Alfred Cosson, 45; Mrs James Cosson 48; 3 sons of Mr & Mrs
James Cosson, Idee 13, Frank 10, & Thomas 4, injuries to the younger boy were not
serious. Tragedy was Friday evening while the two brothers and their families were visiting.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Plesant Ridge Church, interment followed in cemetery.

1944 Aug 31– PFC Roy E Brannon killed in action. A dispatch from Washington as of date of Aug 29
lists among soldiers lost, the name of Pfc Roy E Brannon of Rt 1 DeFuniak as ”killed in action
in Mediterranean area”
Mrs Edna Beardsley Hicks has received word that Chief Warrant Officer Theron G Hicks
has been killed in action. He leaves widow, son Jerry and his mother.
William D. ‘Billy’ Anderson 19, listed as missing in action as of June 6, Normandy invasion,
has now been listed as POW in Germany.
