September 7, 1944

Rev. John D. Alford, 82, passed away at his home Sunday night, August 27, 1944, in the Cluster Springs community. He was born in Coffee County, Alabama, January 1, 1862. In 1880 he was married to Miss Bama Preacher and to this union was born 13 children, 8 boys and 5 girls, of which 5 of them preceded him in death and his wife also passed away in the year 1919. He was a minister of the Primitive Baptist church for 35 years. During this time he baptized over 1,000 members, conducted 300 funerals, and united in marriage 400 couples. In the year 1921, he was again married to Miss Alice Lindsey. To this union there were born 5 children, 4 boys and a girl, all of whom are living. Those who are left to mourn his passing are his wife, Mrs. Alice Alford, Pvt. Wiley J. Alford, somewhere in France, Jesse D. Alford, Dorris Alford, J. C. Alford, and Maxwell Alford. The older children are Luther, Art, Tom, Jerry, Howell, and Henry Alford, Mrs. Clayton Moore and Mrs. Mattie Robinson. Services were Tuesday evening, August 29.  Interment was at Cluster Springs Cemetery.

September 21, 1944

Charles A. Plante died suddenly at his home in Santa Rosa, Florida, Sunday, September 10. He was born at Stanbridge, P. Q. [Quebec Province, Canada], in 1864; less than a year ago he came to Florida from Worcester, Massachusetts. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Wilfa G. Plante,  sister Marie Louise Plante and several nieces and nephews. Burial was in Danville, Vermont.
